TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON
OVER DISCHARGING VESSEL. MEN REFUSE TcT WORK OVERTIME. m pftßM association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 9. Trouble haa arisen in connection with the discharge of coal from the steamer Doonholm which arrived from Cardiff on April 22nd. Work'has been going on daily since without any necessity for overtime, but within the past few days the vessel has been chartered and is required to be itL an Australian port by a certain date. To enable her to do so overtime became necessary, hut on the ship’s agents ordering the men back to-night, they refused, alleging that the vessel was insufficiently lighted. The agents offered to provide additional lights, and the men then stated that, not having been offered overtime till to-night, they were not walling to commence, and did not turn to. / . ~ The local disputes committee considers the matter to-morrow.
