OPENING OF SEASON. The opening of the Waikanae Gun Cflub season, was ibeld on Saturday (writes the “Times” correspondent), under the most favourable conditions for shooting. Though th© shooting was not of a high standard', a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Three members of the Otaki Gun Club—Messrs M. Simcox, P. Bennett, and B. A. Sargisson, secretary Otaki Gun Clubjourneyed to Waikanae. In the first sweep Mr P. Bennett, of Otaki, and Mr T. Steward, of Waikanae, tied for first place with seven breaks, whilst Mr Sargisson was second with six breaks. In the second sweepstake Messrs W. White and Puni Thomas tied for first with five/breaks, White winning in the shoot off. , Messrs James Aplin and Taylor, both members of the Paraparaumu Gun Club, declared th© club season opened, and each scored a break with their first shot. As both gentlemen are well over the age limit for shooting, their performance was quite envied by the younger generation. Th© duties of referee and handicapper were carried out by Mr T. H. Pa,rata (secretary) to the satisfaction of all shooters. Messrs G. R. Kemsley and J. Kemsley greatly assisted the secretary in his duties, whilst Mr Wilmshurst acted at the traps. The Waikanae Gun Club intend holding matches fortnightly for trophies, and members are looking forward to a successful season.
