SWIMMING GALA
t.vat.t. BAY CLUB’S CARNIVAL. The Lyall Bay Life-saving Club, which, is holding a big carnival at the Te Are Baths to-morrow (Saturday afternoon), is worthy of Cie public's liberal support, for not only has the club dons much to foster the sport of swimming, but it has also done much to make swimming safe for all. The proceeds of the carnival will be used for the purchase of new life-saving material, and on Saturday the public will have an opportunity of showing its gratitude for the work the dub is doing. An interesting programme of events has been arranged, and the promise of favourable weather is all that is needed to males the gathering a success. The flying squadron race for the Walker and Hall Cup, in which the five beet men from each club will compete* should result in one of the most interesting contests seen locally for some time. Bach man will he required to swim 100 yards. The schoolgirls’ relay race for the Coltman Cup will also be decided, and an added attraction will be a water polo game between teams representing H-M.S. Chatham and the Lyall Bay Club. The £rowess of the latter team is well nova, hut it is stated that the men from New Zealand’s flagship are also well up in the art of pold In thd event of unfavourable weather on Katun, day, the carnival will be held in tbs Tepid Baths, Tasman street.
