BANDSMEN AT NELSON
THE B GRADE CONTEST. FEB FBESS ABSOCTATTOX. NELSON, March 16. The B grade contest, ten bands competing, commenced last evening. The results will not be known nntil after the test selection this evening. The BB flat bass contest resulted: —T. Rodgers '(St. Kilda) 87, Jock Ferry (Invercargill Hibernian) 86, G. O. Slockler (National Reserve, Nelson) 85. Euphonium Solo- —T. Ovens (Gisborne City) 94, J. MoClintock (Woolston) 93, J. Lowe (12th Nelson Regiment) 86. association Annual meeting. At the annual meeting of the South Island Brass Bands’ Association correspondence was received from the North Island Brass .Bands’ Association suggesting that one big combined contest Be held annually in tho North and South Island alternately. It was eventually resolved that no action be taken. The president (Dr Thacker) was re elected, and tho vice-presidents were re-elected with the additions of Messrs \V. W. Snodgrass (Nelson), J. J. Corry (Blenheim), W. Grace (Invercargill), A. Payne (Christchurch), Dr Noble Adams (Blenheim) ; treasurer, Mr Staples, re-elected; secretary, Mr Hall. The executive was re-elected. The decision as to where the next contest, is to ho held was left to the executive, Timaru being the only applicant. * A notice of motion was given that tho music for the quickstep competitions be the bands’ own choice. Nelson was congratulated on the success of the contest. b ands"entertained . The hands were entertained at a garden party this afternoon. There was a great crowd in tho Botanical Gardens from all parts of the distret. So far the contest has been conducted in_ideal conditions and under cloudless skies.
