ST PATRICKS DAY

HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS. SPORTS MEETING AND CONCERT. St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated today, and in connection therewith a very comprehensive programme has been drawn up for the entertaining of holidayseekers. At 9.45 a.m. a procession wjU leave a point opposite the Government Buildings, and proceed via the principal streets of the city to Newtown Park, whore a monster sports meeting will be held. The procession will be comprised of children attending the Catholic schools, Marist Brothers Old Bovs’ Association, tableaux, St. Patrick’s College students, Hibernians, hierarchy and clergy, and other notables. Members of tho Hibernian Pipe Band mil also parade for the first tame in new uniforms. Apart from the athletic events, which will bo decided under the auspices of the N.Z.A.A.A. at Newtown Park, there will be Highland dancing and Irish jig competitions, a baby show, and many side-shows. These latter will be under the charge of the Mariat Brothers’ Old Boys’ Association. Then there will be a spectacular drill display by about 1000 children. CONCERT AT TOWN HALL.

A national concert will bo held at tho Town Hall in the evening, when many prominent artists will give of their best. Some of the performers will be: Messrs G. H. Andrew, S- Warwick, Phipps, Goudie, Brown, Campbell, and. H. F. Wood and Misses Teresa McEnroe, Frances Morrison, and Mary McKeown. Should the weather prove favourable, the quccess of the holiday; seems aapured.
