CITY’S CIRCULATION SCHEME. SUCCESS OF THE SYSTEM. The system .by which the municipal Jibrary circulates books suitable for digestion by school children amongst the city schools was reported on by Hie library committee at last night’s meetmg of the Cbty Council. The report stated that to the 26 schools 94 separate collections of books were forwarded, comprising in all 8032 books, and oh their return the issues shown on the cards made the splendid total of 103,508. During the year periodical visits were made to the various schools, and the system was found to be working smoothly. On account of the increase in numbers, additional books had-to be supplied to the Ngaio and Island Bay schools, and a collection was also sent to Wadesiown school. In many case the pupils were addressed on the proper bare of the books and the pleasures and benefits to be derived from reading. A strong appeal-was also made to the children to become readlera, and on leaving school to join up with one of the city libraries. The high appreciation of the school libraries and of the scheme in general expressed by the teachers and headmasters went a long way towards making the work a real pleasure. This year 29 schools were being catered for, the new ones being: Wadeetowu, Seatoun and Worser Bay. To these schools 99 separate collections had been forwarded, comprising 8401 volumes. Commenting on the report last night, Councillor A. R. Atkinson, chairman of the library committee, stated that the city had every reason to be proud of the success with which the school library system was working. Councillor T. Forsyth, as chairman of the Education Board, .expressed thank© to the council for the benefit that was afforded *to the school children through the system which had been inaugurated.
