FIRE AT OTAKI

BLAZE IN MOTOR GARAGE. Some excitement was caused at Otaki bn Thursday morning, owing to an outbreak of fire at Messrs Ayrs Bros.' motor garage. The vulcaniser was being heated in .the usual wav, when an employee accidentally knocked' over a bbttle of . benzine. There was an immediate outburst, and flames shot to a considerable height. All hands were quickly on the scene, and by vigorous efforts the flames were subdued. Mr Lloyd, the employee, was severely burned about one hand, the solution he was using, together with the benzine, making matters worse. He received medical treatment, but will bo incapacitated for a time.

MIRAMAR BOROUGH . FINAL MEETING OF COUNCIL. The final meeting of the Miramar Borough Council is to take place on Monday evening. The district will then become part of the city, and wiM be controlled by the City Council and administered by the corporation offioeea In order to make tire 'occasion a memorable one, the Mayor of Miramar and councillors have extended an invitation to the Mayor and Councillors of the city to be present, together with their wives, and at the conclusion, of the meeting a social function is to be held in the counoil chambers. It is anticipated that the city will be fully.-.represented. OTAKI BOROUGH POLL CAN BE VALIDATED. Mr J. P. Brandon, chairman Of the Otaki Town Board, yesterday received a telegram from Mr W. H. Field, M.P., as follows:—“Glad to report that Crown Law Office have advised that the poll can be validated by Orde-r-in-Coun-cil,which will be issued accordingly.’’ The above speaks for itself, and will be welcome news, to the majorty of the electors of Qtaki.—“Times’* correspondent.)
