PICNIC AT DAY’S BAY. VERY ENJOYABLE OUTING. The Wellington City Council staff held, despite the threatening weather early in the day, a most enjoyable picnic at Day’s Bay yesterday. About 250 adults and 300 children went over by the 10.15 ferry boait. ithe party including Hie Worship the Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke, C.M.G., M.P.), the Mayoress, Councillors W. H. Bennett and Burns, Mr W. H, Morton (city engineer), Mr J." R. Palmer (town clerk), and the heads of tie various - departments. Games, races, swimming, boating, 'etc., were indulged in; and a sports meeting was held, the' following being the prize-winners:— Staff Girls'- Race—Misses Hislop, Oakey, and Griffiths a dead heat. Skipping Race—Mias Ronaidson, 1; Miss Pet ere, 2. Cigarette Race—Mies Griffith*. 1; Miss Farquhar, 2. Pig Drawing—Mrs Raddiffe. Nail-driving—Mrs R. MacKenzie. Races were arranged for children of all ages, and each youngster reoeived a good toy) not one was forgotten. The committee, who worked hard to make the day one of thorough enjoyment for all, especially the little ones, deserves the greatest 'credit. Braund’e Orchestra submitted an admirable programme of instrumental items, both during the trip* across the harbour and at the bay.
