INCREASE© WAGES ASKED FOR. Owing to the increase in the cost of living, seven drivers employed by the Pofcone Borough Council are asking that the weekly wage be increased from £3 19s 2d to £5. The- application came before last night's meeting of the council. The engineer (Mr A. Cowie) said the drivers worked 44 hours a week and the award rate of pay for a 48 hour week, with the coat of living bonus, amounted to £4 la Gd. Councillor Brocklobank proposed that the wage be increased to £4 7s 6d, but it was eventually decided to refer the question to the Works Committee for ite report. It was also decided to consider at the samo time an'application from, the assistant Town CJlerli for an increaso in salary.
