THE NEW LEAOEB MR THOMAS MASON WILFORD APPOINTED. ■ - Last evening the Liberal party in Parliament met to decide the Leadership of tho party. Mr G. Forbes, the whip of the party, presided. First' ot all the following resolution was carried, members standing:—"The Liberal party desires to place upon record itg appreciation of the- great services "rendered to the party by the late lion. W. D. S. Mae Donald, and decires to tender to Mrs MacDbnald and family its. sincere- sympathy in the sad less which they have sustained." It was then proposed by Mr T, K. Sidey and-seconded by Mr A. T.- Ngata, that Mr T. M. Wilford should lead the party. This was carried.

Mr "Thomas Mason Wilford, who is member for the Hint electorate, was born on June 20tb, 1870. Ho comes of a quaker family and is a son of Dr J. G. F. Wilford. He was first elected to Parliament in 1896, and has held a seat in the House ftver since. He has hold many public positions of importance. He has been Mayor of Wellington, chairman of the Harbour Conference, chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives', and a. Minister of the Crown in the Nationnl Government. He is a commissioner of sinking funds for the city of Wellington, and'one of the New Zealand trustees of St. John's Ambulance Association.
