LADIES AT PLAY. WELLINGTON BEATEN IN TOURNAMENT. PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, September fi. The ladies' hockey championship tournament was continued to-day under unpleasant conditions. A cold southerly wind blew across the ground, and frequent diowere of rain fell; indeed, tho second spells of the last two games. Manawatu" v. Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay B'v. Auckland, were played in almost continuous rain; The attendance was estimated at fifteen hundred. The grounds weft> in good order. / , In the A section, Wanganui beat Wairarapa by thrco goals to two. The game was not .particularly interesting, and play generally was not up to the standard of other matches played during the afternoon. For Wanganui, Miss Perritt scored the three gqals, and Miss Orr scored two for Wairarapa. In tho second match in the A section Poverty. Bay A beat Wellington by four goals to two. The game was a first-class exhibition throughout, both sides showing good combined play. The game was a hard-fought one, and the score by no means represent* the difference in the teams.
