POLICE COURT
YESTERDAY'S CASES. Mr J. S. Evans, S.M., occupied tho Bench in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with a number of offenders as follows:—A number of week-end. oflenders for insobriety were dealt with in the usual manner. James S. Masterto* was fined, sums totalling to £2 10s for drunkenness and committing an indecent act in Willis street on Sunday last. MISSED THE TRAIN. When charged with beinj? drunk and with breaking his prohibition order, a man named James D© l.acey Crawley explained that he had missed the train, and had been unable to return to the country, from where he had come to see his wife. It was explained that <he man had a weakness for drink. He was fined amounts totalling 30s. Mr C. A. L. Treadwell appeared for accused. . CHARGE OP THEFT. A young man named Claude William Fowler to answer a charge of stealing the eum of £7 10s, the property of George H. Woodham, at New Plymouth. Chief-Detective Ward asked for a remand until the 10th inst. to enable- the authorities to investigate the ease, as accused had only been arrested on telegraphic communication from New Plymouth by Detective Black recently. The remand was granted. MAINTHNANCE CASES. With regard to a maintenance order, a man named Percival Breen said he was not. in a position to pay anything m reduction of the sum of .£lsl 2s 6d in arrears for his children at present in the Nelson Industrial School. The man said he was desirous of having some or one of his children at home. "How do you propose to maintain your children, if you cannot hardly maintain your wife and yourself?" asked tbe magistrate, in adjourning th« «asb ti,r three months. The man was formally convicted "and advised to try and make some effort towards payment. Norman M. Loveridge was ordered to pay .£2 per week towards the support of his wife and two children.
