LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. The Lower Hutt Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting last night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr E. P. Rishworth) and Councillors J. Hobbs, A. J. West, W. B. Hardy, A. Macaskill, W. Meldrum, W. Knight, and W. T. Cotton. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received ' from the Board of Trade enclosing regulations for the supply of cement, bricks and timber.—lt was decided to accede to the board’s requests. A memorandum was received from ho Eltham Borough Council with a resolution calling upon tho Government to impßto further restrictions upon the immigration of aliens, and asking the council’s support in the matter. —Received.
Tho Hamilton Borough Council wrote asking for the council’s co-opera-tion in asking the Government to remove import duty from cement. —Received.
A letter from the Mayor of Potono stating that the council’s invitation to the Petone Borough Council to meet in conference with reference to the proposal for joint ownership of tho gas works, had been giyen full consideration and t*iat no action had been taken.—Received-
The Premier wrote acknowledging receipt of a letter from the town clerk enclosing copies of corfeepondenco between the ' Hutt and Petone councils and tho Board of Trade relative to tho gas dispute.—Received. -* A- Jetter was received from the Health Department advising certain proposed legislation in reference to sanitary rates, and fees for removal of nighteoil and house refuse.—Received. Councillor Cotton proposed a motion for tho epunoil to take into consideration the question of appointing a motor mechanic, who would bo cap, ablo of looking after and driving the motor ambulance and fire brigade motor* vehicle. —Tho matter was held over. The engineer’s and inspector’s reports were received and adopted.
