THE DAVIS GUP

question op venue. DEDUCTIONS BY A SYDNEY • PAPER. . By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright (Received July 12, 8.15 p.m.). SYDNEY, July 12. Tho “Sun,” in a leader referring to Tilden’a defeat of Patterson, says: “Australasian tennis players must be wondering how Australia’s next Davis Cup team is going to shape against the Americans. Had the Australian or British players anything to give away to the Americans a change of venue to New Zealand would not be of much consequence, but on the present , showing they have nothing to give, and will surrender a valuable advantage by playing in New Zealand, where they will be as much on, foreign soil and in a foreign atmosphere as will the Americana.” The paper adds that playing in New Zealand, therefore,, with the chances as they are, may well result in the defeat of the Australians. It suggests that tho New Zealand Association, in generously waiving its rights, might help to keep the cup in tho Empire.
