HOUSING PROBLEM
GOVERNMENT ACTION. In connection with the housing scheme, the Prime Minister «Uteil yesterday that the Govarnmen ~ through the State Advances Department, during tho quarter ended March 81st last, had authorised the granting of applications from 302 Eottlerb (amounting in value to £152,090), and to workers of 478 application,, (repin senting £209,015), for the purpose of building houses and completing tho purchase of properties. In addition to these advances, an amount of £15,125 bad heel authorised to settlers for tho purpose of re(pairing mortgages on house properU Applications, amounting to £206,000, had been received the State Advances Department 'ro-n 37 local bodies throughout the Dominion under the Housing Act, 1919, and these implications wero now being deal* with. As soon sw the necessary formalities provided by law had been complied with by tho local bodies it Was probable that all the applications would he approved
