A SERIOUS CRISIS
ANGLO-FRENCH RELATIONS
ADVANCE in GERMAN NEUTRAL ZONE. BRITAIN AND ALLIES INDICATE DISAPPROVAL. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright Australian anil N.Z. Cable Association (Received April 9, 7.25 p.np) LONDON, April S. A serious crisis is believed to have arisen in Anglo-French relations. Cabinet has notified its disapproval of France's advance in the neutral zone. ■ it. is learned authoritatively by the Imperial News Service that France acted entirely on her own responsibility in deciding on an advance in the neutral zone, and that Britain, Italy, Belgium, and America all oj posed such action. France’s military move has caused an obviously delicate situation, and the British and French Governments are discussing tho matter in the hope of easing the tension. W.hen the trouble started in tho neutral zone, it was essential that steps should be taken to restore order, but tlie question was whether the Allied or German forces should act.
One proposal was that Germany should be made responsible for restoring order, and should bo allowed" to send troops toVßuhr under the strictest guarantees, which defined .that Marshal Foch and Allied officers should accompany the Gorman forces in order to determine when a retirement would be justified.
