RIFLE SHOOTING
HOME-ANO-HOME MATCHES PROVINCIAL TEAMS TO FIRE TO-MORROW. The provincial teams matches, introduced at the recent District Rifle Association mooting of riflemen, will come into operation to-morrow (Saturday). Tho idea of these matches is to encourage rifle shooting throughout the Dominion. and bring rifle clubs and their members into closer touch with each other. The Now Zealand Rifle Association hopes by next year to have these homc-and-home matches thoroughly cstabled —provincial, -as well as district group and home-and-home matches. Active steps are being taken by leading riflemen throughout the Dominion to x>rocure a suitable challenge shield to be shot for annually. Theridea is to procure a shield similar to the Ranfuriy Football Shield. With these matches set well in motion and with the renewed and better assistance as offered by tho Government in the way of additional rifle ranges of better class, and with a more liberal supply of ammunition, and new barrels, rifle shooting must forgo ahead and become one of the national pastimes of this Dominion. Teams selected from Otago, Canterbury,. Wellington, and Auckland will fire, 12' men aside, on their respective ranges at ranges 300, 000, (500 yards, 7 shots at each range, under D.R.A. rules. Major V. Dunne is to be asked to act as range officer, and Captain T. Davis as trench officer. The names of the Auckland and Wellington teams are as under:— Auckland.—Devore, Elliott, White, Shore, Stock. Ashley. Reston, Bryan, Yeo, Patrick, Powell, Harrington: emergencies : Skelton, Watson, Pxeterson, Morgan. Dixoh, Lane. Wellington.—Guincv (captain). Croxton, Darkle, Hunt, Ballinger E., Crossan, Sneddon, Carter, Bulford, Ching, McDonald, Boon: emergencies: Warburton. Franklyn, Whiteman, C„ Diddle, J. Burns. Coaches Wellington team: Messrs A. Ballinger, G. Holliday. and J. T. Turner. WELLINGTON SUBURBS CLUB. Tho Wellington Suburbs Defence Rifle Club Tv-ill continue its shooting at Trontham io-morrow (Saturday),, at ranges 300, 500 and 600 yards. The first in the third series and the fifth match for tho championship will be fired. In conjunction with this match the club will also fire a 20-men teams match, home and home, with the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club. KARORI CLUB. The members of the Karori Rifle Club will fire tho fourth match of tho third series at the Trentham range on Saturday at ranges of 300 and 600 yards, 10 shots and sighter at each range. MINIATURE RIFLES HARBOUR BOARD CLUB. At tho ninth Annual meeting of the above club there was a good number of old and new members present. The president, H. E. Nicholls (secretary of tho board) occupied tho chair. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report and balance-sheet were read by the secretary. This showed the club’ to be in a good financial position, also, that it still held a prominent .position in shooting circles, finishing up with sixth placa in the Wellington Miniature Rifle Association's inter-club contest. The club champion for the season was Mr C. McDonald, with Mr J. M. Russell as runner-up. Other prizewinners were Messrs C. McDonald (1), J. RusScll (5), C. Prince (4), H- Priiice (3), R.
