N.Z. RIFLE CHAMPION
COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL TO RIFLEMAN CROXTON. A complimentary, social to Rifleman H. V. Croxton, of the Karori Rifle Club, winner of the New Zealand-Rifle championship at Trentham the other day, was tendered by the ' Military Club at Dustin’s Cafe, Cuba street, last night. The Karori Club president (Mr H. Marshall) occupied the chair, and there wag a large attendance, other honoured -gttests being General Richardson and Colonel R. J. Collins (chief executive officer of the Dominion Rifle Association). Mr. G. Halliday, the only other member of the Karori Riflo Club who has held the New Zealand rifle championship, proposed the toast of the evening—"The New Zealand Rifle Champion.” Congratulating the Karori Rifle Club upon one of its members having again won the championship, Mr_ Halliday said that it had been previously ■-yon by the _ Karori Club in 1910, ’and now again in 1920 ; and ho expressed the hope that the club would win it every ten years and at intervals between. (Applause and laughter.) Mr Croxton's win had been a very popular one, and it now only remained for him to go Home and win the King’s Prize, ns one of those present In' the room, Sergeant Loveday had already done. (Applause.) He sincerely hoped Mr Oroxton would :go to Bisley and win ■ the prize. (Applause.) Rifleman Croxton suitably responded, and- in doing so congratulated the runners-uo, Riflemen West and Guinoy, on the good, consistent shooting they had done, not only at Trentham. hut at other recent rifle meetings.^ Other toasts were “The Dominion Rifle Association.” “Supporters of Rifle Shooting,” end “Kindred Clubs.”
A very enjoyable programme .of sonss, recitations, eto., was contributed by several of .those present.
