Mr Cotter, acting-secretary to the Canterbury Jockey Club, expressed astonishment when the Mayor’s action was brought under -his notice. “The C.J.O. meeting has nothing whatever to do with the Mayor,” ho said. “Wo have received a.special permit from the Government. AVe have made the matter public, and our programme will bo out next week. That is all there is about it.”
