AFRICAN GOLD
THE LOW-GRADE MINES PREMIUM DROP CAUSES CRISIS. (Received April 8, 5.5 p.m.> CAPETOWN, April 7. Last year’s crisis m connection with low-grade mines, which was averted by the. rise in gold values, has been revived owing to a sudaeu drop in the gold premium, with value at Hue. Last mouth is said to have been one of the most disastrous in the history of the industry. The drop in the gold premium is duo to improvement in the trade position with England and laigo exports of gold, and if it continual tho opinion on the Raud is that many lowgrade mines will he seriously aftccted, and probably compelled to close.
