YACHTSMEN MEET
HARBOUR DISPLAY PROPOSED. IN HONOUR OF PRINCE'S VISIT. A special general meeting of tho Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club was held a.U Evans Bay last evening. The commodore (Mr A. J. Ibbotson) presided, and there was a representative gathering of members. Sevemeen new members were elected to the club, including a lady. The commodore said that he had waited upon tho Acting - Mayor (Mr G. Frost) by invitation for the purpose of discussing a proposal that yachtsmen join in welcoming the Prince of Wales when the Renown arrivos in tho hiubour, and tho making of u. displaj oi yachts when the Prince makes his historical landing at/ Petone. It was decided to join tho Port Nicholson Club in arranging for a general display, and a sub-committee was appointed to meet representatives of the, bister club. It was unanimously resolved to entertain a portion of the crew of tho Renown during the vessel's stay in the harbour. CLUBHOUSE. Some discussion took place in respect to the erection of a clubhouse and tho carrying out of the work was approved. Plans of the proponeu building are to be submitted to tho Harbour Board and an implication mad© for a Bite. The members present were enthusiastic in the matter, and offers "were received in tho room to take up tho necessary amount in debentures to ensure the undertaking becoming an accomplished fact. AN OCEAN «U-ACE. The chairman pointed out that Mr G. H. Jackson had offered a prize of £lO for an ocean race m Easter. Mr Jackson's proposal was that the race should bo a combined on© between yachts, the crews of which to be members of the Evans Bay and Port Nicholson Yachting Clubs.. The Port Nicholson Club had approved of the offei hub intimated that ifc would he impossible to get crews to enter their boats. The donor was informed of the position, and he then .offered the money to the Evans Bay Club provided five boats started, and a day Was spent at Port Underwood. The following yacht crews have given notice of their intention to enter for the contest:—Wanderer, Waitangi, Atalanta, Sea Bird and Romp, while there was every probability of the yachts Viking, Oalatea, and White Wings being also amongst the competitors. The race is to start on Good Friday, should the weather be favourable, and the yachts are to return on Easter Monday. It was stated that arrangements were in hand for the holding of the club's annual social.
