THE EXTRA SHILLING A DAY. Sir "William Fraser, Minister for' Public Works, stated yesterdav that the shilling per day increased pay granted to the Public Works Department labourers is in the nature of a bonus and dates back to March Bth. The bonus is payable to all casual labourers earning from 12s to 14s a. day. The striking tunnellers at the Haurau tunnel, North Auckland, hare determined, it is understood, not to resume work until their demand for 16s a shift for tunnellers and 15s for railway workers is acceded to.
