OLYMPIC GAMES
NEW ZEALAND TEAM TO CO FUNDS TO FINANCE TRIP TO BE RAISED. A mooting of the Olympic Games Council of New Zealand was held last evening. Air A. A. Alarryatt presided, and there -were present: Alessrs B. A. Guise, J. E. Staples, R. St. J. Beerc, B. Kneeing, A. Davies, G. S. Hill, and Eldridgo. Tito secretary RUr Guise) said that tho Boxing Association had advised tliat because of tho expense of sending a team to Brisbane in August, it would not bo in a position to give financial help .to the Olympic movement. lb was reported that the Rowing Association was willing to help, and had suggested that D. C. lladfield- should bo sent to the Olympic Games to compete in tho rowing events. Tho Swimming Association advocated the claims of Aliss Violet Wulrond (Auckland), Miss G. Shand (Christchurch) and Air C. Atkinson (Christchurch). The chairman remarked that New Zealand was now regarded as a separate nation, and therefore it would he well to make a special effort to bo represented. He reckoned it would cost £3OO per representative. If the scheme was to bo successful no time should bo lost in getting to’ work. Tho meeting resolved to ask the newspapers throughout New Zealand to open subscription lists for funds.
The chairman moved that a team be sent. Air Hill seconded and the motion was carried. It was announced that the ’following nominations had been received:—■ H. E. Wilson (hurdler), Lindsay and Davidson (sprinters), Hadficld (rowing), Atkinson, Misses Walrond and Shand (swimming). It was resolved to ask the Government to subsidise the fund? raised public! v. Another decision was that all clubs should he «isked to institute shilling funds.
