VISITORS’ GOOD FORM. CANTERBURY REPRESENTATIVES DEFEATED. FEB T‘BESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, March 20. The matches' between Beamish and Lowe and the Canterbury tennis representatives were continued -in fine weather and before n large attendance. In the singles Lowe beat Ollivier 6 —4, 3—2, and Beamish beat Greenwood 6—2, 6—3. Loire kept a magnificent length and many of his shots were unplayable. Ho strained a leg fiajf way through the first set, but this handicap did not seriously affect hi* p'ay. There were some brilliant exchanges in the second set but Lowe’s tactics were superb and Ollivier was frequently played into a hopeless position. Beamish did not have such a difficulty in defeating Greenwood. The latter made many mistakes in the'first set but put ud a plucky fight in the secbnd and frequently passed Beamish at the net. , In the doubles Lowe and Beamish beat Ollivier and Greenwood G —3, 6—2, D—7. In the- first two sets the visitors had the advantage, their playing very oiten being unanswerable. The third set was very exciting and was marked by brilliant tennis. At one stage the scores were 7—7, but In two final games the visitors showed to advantage and won the set and match.
