THE HORAHORA ALLOCATION

Sir William Fraser, Minister for Public Works, met in conference representatives of tho Hamilton Borough Council, Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Thames Valley, and Waikato Power Boards, several smaller local bodies, and representatives of tho Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., and Thames Valley Dairy Company. With regard to the allocation ■or power after providing for th<f require, ments of the Waihi Gold Mining Company, loss in transmission and distribution, spare units reserved for power required by the Government in connection with the construction works at Arapuni and special industries, it Is estimated that 2400 extra ' horsepower will be available for sale to local bodies. This will be divided amongst local bodies and special industries. It is anticipated that the “special industries” will include the proposed new railway workshops at Franfcton, certain dairy factories and probably freezing works. The Minister assured the meeting that extra machinery,' capablej of generating a further 2600 horse-power, would be installed at Horahora as soon as possible, and stated that instructions had been given to prepare plans and specifications of this work at tho earliest possible moment.
