TRAINING THE “DIGGER”
INCREASED SUBSIDIES REQUIRED.
APPRENTIQES AND OTHERS
In connection with the training of soldiers, representations have teen made to the Ministerial Board in Wellington for increased subsidies granted 'to apprentices and subsidised workers. This is primarily due to the increased cost of living, as compared with that ruling when the Act was passed, and the amount granted at that time. While it served its purpose then it is totally inadequate now, and the request has been made that the payments’ should be brought into line with the conditions existing to-day. It is believed that the Ministerial Board is in favour of giving every consideration to the matter, and that this add allied applications will be discussed at the next meeting of the bodv. Referring to the application, an official closely connected with repatriation work, said to ,a "New Zealand Times” representative: “There Is no doubt the conditions hay© changed. The matter resits with the board, and I have every confidence that the whole subject will receive the most earefpl consideration at the hands of the board.”
