A general headquarters instruction recently notified that applications for assisted passages for fiancees of New Zealand soldiers will not he entertained after March 31st. With the object of endeavouring to secure an extension of this period, the New Zealand Returned Soldiers* Association is circularising its various branches throughout the Dominion for support in the demand. The association points out that there are still in England a large number of soldiers’ fiancees awaiting passages, and it is also approaching the Defence Department on the subject. On Saturday afternoon the new post office at Paekakariki was opened by the Hon. J. O. Coates (PostmasterGeneral. The building, which cost .E 1475 to erect, in addition to tho office, provides residential quarters for the postmistress. In addition te the public office in tho business portion of the edifice,' there is a telephone bureau . room, mail rooiij, telephone exchange' room, store room, and a sot of private letter hos^s.
