RIFLE SHOOTING
DISTRICT MEETING. TO COMMENCE XO-DAT. The third rifle meeting of the Wellington military district, open to competitors from all pars of tho province south of Taumarunui, will ’be com menced at the Trentham rifle range to-day, and will conclude to-morrow. The first district meeting was held in 1916, and the second in 1918, and it is anticipated that this year’s meeting will be even more successful than its predecessors, since with the return of a large number of shooting enthusiasts from active service, interest is expected to he keener than it was during the war.
The programme for the tournament is a very comprehensive one, and, in addition to £l6l being offered in cash prizes, and trophies valued at £172, eight silver cups, eight gold medals, qpd two championship shields are offered for competition. Tho matches will be fired at various ranges, and according to class are open to territorials, all-comers, returned soldiers, and senior cadets. There are also a number of teams events.
