RIFLE SHOOTING
FIELD SHIELD CHALCLBNGB "COM. PETITION.
The Hautere Rifle Club journeyed ta Paraparaumu to try conclusions with the local team for the Shield. The Wjftther was perfect, and this was in favthtf of the visitors, as the range is very tricky on breezy days. Hautere won with a score of 714 points, whilst Wbareroa ecored 664. For the visitors A; Thomson (93) and D. Mackereey (94) were the highest scorers, whilst M. Field (87) ind C. Dowsett (86) were the highest fox the local team. The Whareroa's wtfre particularly unfortunate in stilting & vile lot of ammunition, every member having two and some three bad cartridges duping the day. On three occasions during the day the Hautere team showed their sportsmanship in allowing eitri shots for misses due to bad cartridges, although the doinjr so mar have lost then the match, as the first two were .early in the shoot.
