SWIMMING CARNIVAL
I SATURDAY'S BIG GATHERING. On Saturday afternoon a swimming 'carnival, organised by the governing bodies of the Wellington Swimming CenItre, ' Royal Life-Saving. Society, and the Wellington Barf Association, wiU take place at Te Aro Baths. An arrangement has been made for the appearance ot Miss .Violet Walrond, of Auckland, the New Zealand ladies' champion, . Min Edna Walrond. junior champion, Miss Shand, of Christohurch, ex-champion. Miss Bristed, of Christohurch, Mr B. G. L. Patterson, of Wellington; New Zealand's champion, and Mr Cyril Claridgre, of Wellington, junior 'New Zealand champion. An endeavour will be made to beat the New South Wales championship record attained by Miss Durack, and Mr Claridge will make an effort tobreak the record of the New Zealand quarter-mile . championship. . Th* rSfogramme will include many other items, the most notable being ladies' and gentlemen's divinj; events, the swimmers* memorial. championship, and flyinjf squadron championship. As this carnival is the first of its kind held in Wellington since the commencement of the war it is anticipated-that there j will be an excellent attendance.
