The housing conditions Were so deplorable that 30 per 'cent, of the Chinese death-rate. was duo to tuberculosis. All the' conditions' were such as to brin g-the diseases of the East within, reach of Darwin. The town became overran with- -the -yellow fover mosquito. —and—disaster - was a weekly possibility. . Eventually, in default of the local authority taking notion, the Administrator demolished the hovels, covered the drinking wells, and repatriated a number of the Chinese. The mosquito then disappeared. « , INQUIRY-ADJOURNED. (Received March 12, T 1.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March. 12., Before the Territory Dr Holmes continued his , evidence regarding the bad sanitary conditions in .Darwin. ■ He detailed substantial improvements carried* but by Dr - Gilruth. The inquiry was' adjourned to tho 22nd.
