HIDE SALES
FURTHER RISE IN PRICES. At the fortnightly hide sale held in "Wellington yesterday the supplies were rather smaller than usual. There was, however, a large attendance of buyers, including tanners’ representatives, and the bidding was very spirited. The tanners availed themselves of their rights of pre-emption only on lines of medium and medium to heavy ox skins, and the bulk of the hides Were bought for export. Prices for hides were approximately lid to lid per lb higher than at the previous sale, and about.on a level for calfskins and, yearlings. Tallow sold at last sales’ figures, with a hardening tendency. One lot of calfskins in the first catalogue reached the top price of 483 d. PRICES AT TiMARU SALES. PER PRESS 4 SSOOT AVION. TIMAiRU, March 13. - At the hide and skin sale to-day Dalgety and Co. sold calfskins for, 41) d to 4l))d, sound ox 13d tol4d, cow 31d to ‘22id. This was the first sale since December, and 650 hides were offered to keen competition.
