APPLICATION BEFORE ARBITRATION COURT. INCREASED BONUS GRANTED. PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION’. CHRISTCHURCH, February 24. The Arbitration Court opened its fitting bora this afternoon. Representing the Christchurch Jtuirnahets' Union, Air D. G. Sullivan, M.P., asked' that the hearing of the union's application for an award be held over till the end of the Christchurch session of the court. He explained that this was to meet the convenience of the employers’ representatives. Mr E. C. Huio, on (behalf of the employers, said the employers concurred in tho application lor postponement of tho hearing. Ho also pointed out .that the employers had not been cited. His Honour fixed the hearing of the caso for Tuesday, March 2nd, at 10 a.m.
Later in the day, 'Hr O. Renn, on behalf of the union, applied for the 4s bonus for Timaru, Tomuka, Geraldine, and Ashburton journalists, and for tho Christchurch newspaper reporters and proof-readers. Mr Huie said a private agreement bad be. n entered into between tho parties providing for a bonus in excess of 4s a week. Mr Rena said the agreement referred to was at least twelve months old.
Mr A. 0. Henderson, who appeared for tho Christchurch “Press” and Lyttelton “Times’* companies, said an agreement, except on one or two points, had been reached in the journalists’ dispute between tho union and the companies he represented. The court granted the bonus on the existing award rates to Christchurch reporters and proof-readers, and postponed application on behalf of country journalists until it eat in Timaru.
