A SORDID STORY
CHARGE AGAINST TWO' MEX I'EE PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, February 23. William Baden Powoll Ayros (19) and John Eire Ramsey (44) were charged in the Auckland Police Court with having had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl of fifteen years, tho former at Devonport and the latter at Ngaruawhia. Tho girl stated that in November 'she and a girl of eighteen were intimate with Ayres and another man, and they subsequently' went to tho Waikato and met both men again a» Hamilton, and again at Te Aroha. There illicit relations again occurred between Ayres and herself, and also between herself and the accused Ikm--6ey, who was introduced to her under the name of Murray. At Te Aroha. the latter made .a proposal that tho two girls should go south with him and earn money by an immoral life. They were subsequently arrested by the police, "at tho instance of their parents, and brought back to Auckland. This story was corroborated by the girl of eighteen, and evidence was given by persons who saw the girls in company with Ayres at various times and places mentioned by the girls. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, were committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed in each case in one surety of £l5O.
