MONASH AS CRITIC
BRITISH THIRB CORPS MILD PROTEST BY ".MANCHESTER GUARDIAN." By Telegraph—Press . Australian afld N.Z. Cable Association. (.Received February 9, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Febryary 6.
The "Manchester Guardian," in a leader on General Monash's booky pays a -warm, tribute to General Monash's resource and brilliant' - leadership, but mildly* protests against his reference to the British Third Corps -pi-Infantry failing to reach its ultimate objective, which he indirectly suggests was due to faulty staff co-ordination or faulty local leadership. The correct explanation is; that the Third Corps nortnwa-rd of tho Somme had most difficult ground, to cover. The absence of recognition of this difference is an instance of a few failings in the judgment of others by the wonderful : Australian troops. With the exception of a few isolated iiniiJs- they 'are the greatest of all modern soldiers, and probably the greatest in aid history. They were ses supremo in every .other, martial quality that they could -well afford'to practise/ complete generosity in their judgment of their' comrades.
