CONFERENCE OF OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES. TER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WAIHI. February 7. A conference between the mine-own-ers and the Miners’ Union in reference to a now industrial agreement has been proceeding for the past three days on vital matters. The union demanded a five-day week of 40 hours with a minimum wage,of 17s per day, and the mine-owners offered an increase of Is 9d per day, bringing the minimum wage to I2s 3d per day compared with 10s Gd. They also offer a reduction of four hours per shift, weekly,. to battery workers, thus reducing the week’s work to 44 hours as against 48. The conference is still sitting.
