THE TRAMWAY TROUBLE
’ AN EXPIRING AWARD. AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON. Thai Mayor of Auckland was asked the other doy what would ho the position if tho tramway employees in Auckland followed the example of those in Wellington, and rejected tho draft agreement drawn up at the recent conference. Mr Guuson, said: "As far as a Dominion award is concerned if is mow quite clear that one cannot be made it Wellington stands out. As far as Auckland is concerned, tho Council favours a Dominion award. Our local agreement with tho tramway men expires nest May, and the Council hoped a fresh and satisfactory agreement would bo arranged before that date. In this case there) are two methods, a local award or a Dominion one. Tho Council favours (he latter, and has done all it could to bring about a settlement on that basis. That being rejected by tho Wellington tramway employees there scorned nothing loft but to have, a new local agreement next May."
