FRANCE'S SAFETY
A FOOL'S PARADISE CAN GERMANY BE TRUSTED? LEAGUE NOT YET EFFECTIVE. By Tolegraph—Press Assn.—Copywright Australian ami -N./i- Oanio ahmimmouNEW, Y r ORK, November 25. ' The "New York World's" Paris correspondent .interviewed Marshal Foch, who said: "I think it is superfluous to talk about the League of Nations and the protection it assures to France. It is only a scheme at present. We have not yet put it into practice. How can ft league which does not exist protect Franco? Tho League is a great expectation; it is not a fact. Besides, the League would be able to maintain peace only if wo exacted stern and complete fulfilment, of tho terms of tlio Treaty. Tho idea of revenge is in the minds of all Germans. We cannot remain unarmed with such a Germany facing us. Germany was neither cruslied nor dismembered, and she wiU start the war again when she is ready." STRONG IJJIMY~NEEDED. M. POINCARE^INTENTIONS. (Received November 30, 11 p.m.) NEW YORK. November 26. Tho "New York World's" Paris correspondent interviewed M. Pome-are, -who said, "After my Presidential term I propose to offer myself as a candidate for tho Chamber of Deputies or the Senate. My policy will be to keep Franco powerful. I want her to maintain a strong army. Peace -would be a vain word without American co-opera-tion. The Treaty would mean nothing. France's economic status cannot be restored without complete exploitation of tho French colonies. Germany shows no signs of true repentence. We must watch carefullv or the smouldering fires may blaze anew. I am a firm upholder of the League of Nations. The Leagae would prove its efficacy and assure peace if it hecomes a reality/'
