AIEF/TING OF I/OOAL BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington branch of tho Navy League ivas held this week. There wore present:— Colonel Campbell ( (in the chair), Mrs Darling, Miss Laurenson, Lieuten-ant-Colonel Roberts and Mr B. Keesing. Mrs Darling; (hon. secretary of the Ladies' Auxiliary) reported that two entertainments Jiad beon givon for the cadets of the Wnipawa and Wangaratta, also a tennis party by the courtosy of the Keiluurn Tennis Club. Mjss Laurenson reported that a case of woollen comforts had beon dispatched to the Agnes Weston Memorial Home. It was decided that tho balance in hand from the citizens' ball be presented to tho Ladies' Auxiliary for tho purpose of entertaining naval cadets. A hospitality committee Had been set up to deal with tho arrival of cadets and fclio Ladies' Auxiliary was extremely grateful to tho ball committee for tho amount. On behalf of the education committee, Mr Keosing reported that flags had been presented to Borhamporo and South Wellington schools by Commander Williams, to Wellington College by Colonel G. F. C. Campbell to the Waitara pubic school and to the New Plymouth Girls' High School by Captain Andrews. A lantern lecture had been given by Mr Darroch at Berhamr>oro, and another lantern lecture wou>kl be given in the South AVellington school. It was reported that tho Palmer prize competition had closed with hundreds of essays from all parts of Now Zealand by boys nnd girls,. their ages ranging from eleven years to eighteen years. It was decided that r Justice Hosking, Colonel Campbell, Mr T. S. AA'eston and Mr B. Keosing bo asked to act as examiners. A letter from Rear-Admiral R. E. It. Benson, C. 8., was road stating that at the request of the AVellington branch the Navy League at Home hud mado I arrangements whereby Mrs. Cornwall (the mother of Jack Cornwall, A r .O.) would receive an annual allowance of £62 10s. Tho committee decided that tho totail amount of King George's funds in hand should bo transmitted to tho authorities at Homo with a recommendation that a generous grant bo made out of the amount to Lady Dimsdale's Hostel for Sailors.
