MILITARY DEFAULTER
APPEAL- DISMISSED IN WELLKNOWN CASE. . Press Association. OHRISTOHURCH. November .■ 7. Hope Whitfield Home, a military defaulter who achieved a good deal of prominence about twelve months ago, recently lodged an appeal against the inclusion of his name in the military defaulters' list, but when his name was called in the Magistrate's Court this aftornoon it was said that Homo had left for America about three weeks ago. Home achieved notorietv in the first place owing to the insistence with which ho claimed to be an American citizen. He gave tho military authorities a great deal of trouble before he was finally sentenced bv district courtmartial at Christchurch on Novemlber 29th last year to twolve months' imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of failinc to oboy the lawful commands of his superior officer. Mr Raymond, K. 0., who appeared for tho Defence Department, stated that he had boon advised that tho appellant could not bo present as ho had left the country. The magistrate Olr McCarthy): Yes, that is correct. He loft with a. passport, issued by the American Governiccnt. The magistrate dismissed the appeal with costs against appellant.
