POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES.

Tho following eases wore dealt with by Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday: Nine first-offending drunkards, two of whom wore arrested on Sunday, were dealt with in the usual manner. RESISTED ARREST. Asbjorn Hausen, a young seafaring man, pleaded guilty to being drunk, and with resisting Constable Michael Cussen in the execution of his duty. Constable Oussen stated that when ho arrested Hansen he resisted violently. Ho kicked, struck, and tried to bite witness, but was not successful to any extent. Witness did not suffer any injury. The magistrate said it was a case of a drunken man resisting arrest, but he was evidently in a position to kick, bite, and punch. He would bo sent to jail for seven days. PELTED WITH GLASS. A big, powerful man, named Edward Ammamiller Nordlund, when charged with being drunk, assaulting Walter John Harding, and with using obscene language, replieaVthat he was so drunk at the time that he did not recollect what had taken place. Sub-Inspector Emerson said that on Saturday evening the accused went aboard the scow Echo at the King’s Wharf, when the crew was at tea, and interfered with them. The cook told him to go ashore, and he struck tho cook on the face. The defendant eventually went on to the wharf, and a bottle of beer which he had in his pocket fell out. It broke, and Nordlund threw the pieces of glass at the crew, os well as stones and pebblee. At the same time he used obscene language. For committing the assault the defendant was convicted and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, and was convicted and discharged on the other Informations. MAINTENANCE OASES. Thomas Purcell, who had allowed arrears in respect to a maintenance order in favour of his wilt) to amount to £l9, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. The warrant is to be suspended so long as £1 10s per week is Bird, who applied for » separation order against her husband, William John Bird, together with maintenance, was not granted a ration, but a maintenance order at tne rate of 10s a weak, was allowed.
