MR DAVID ROBERTSON
Tho death, of Mr David Robertson took place on i'riday eveninjr at his residence in. itoxburjrh. .'street. Ho had been m ill-health, for some time, and his death was not unexpected. Born in Dundee 75 years aso., Mr Robertson came out to New Zealand 40 years ago as an. engineer, and after a brief residence m Dunedin. camo on to Wellington, where ho acquired the Phoenix Foundry Company, and estabSfched the mow <Y,mknown firm of Messrs D. Robertson and Co., enßinoors and ironfounders. Ever since its foundation the firm, under; Mr Robertson's management, has earned on a lanre and successful business, and has, besido other important works, constructed one or two coastal steamers. Diirinjr practically the whole of the period of his residence here the late Mr Robertson took an active interest in the public affairs of the city, and was also for a low? time a member of the Technical Education Board, of which he was chairman for a considerable period, and a members of the Wellington lidustnal Association. He also held a seat on the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for a numer of years. He took a particular interest in the affairs of the Clyde Quay chool, and from the time it was opened, some thirty years ap;o, until compelled by failinp; health to relinquish the position, he was, chairman of the Oiyde Quay school committee., in which capacity he did valuabl* .pubtUc service. He was also closelj connected with tho Kent Terrace Presby terian Church, of which ho was thl senior older. His wife died some years a.fjo. Ho leaves a family of three sons and four daughters, the names of whom are as follow: —Messrs James. David, and William Robertson. Miss Robertson. Mrs ft. M. .Virtue, of Wellington; Mr O. Hannatyne. if Reikorangi; and Mr» ft Newson, of Day's Bay.
