October 21. _ An American comnmniaiie states: Wo continue our pressure west" of the Mouse. There is heavy artillery and machine-sunning on the entire front. North of Verdun severe enemy counterattacks were repulsed, The heavy lighting north of Verdun during the past week has drawn u constantly increasing number of German divisions from the rest of the front. They are desperately resisting our strong attacks m order to secure tiio retreat _ot the German array, whoso position is compromised hv attacks west and south.
