MISS RUBY M‘DONALD
COMPLIMENTARY CONCERT AT THE) TOWN HALL. The large and enthusiastic audience which assembled at the Town Had last night was a well-deserved compliment to that .highly conscientious and successful violinist. Miss Ruby McDonald, TJ was a benefit to this artist whose skill as a player on the violin has been generally acknowledged, in W ellington tor some time past. Miss McDonald, to a programme of remarkable excellence, contributed two solos, which were greatly admired, in the firit .instance she. played Schubert’s “Ave ’Maria’ (as arranged by Wilbelmj), bracketed with the first movement of Godard’s Concerro “Eoniantique,” and afterwards the Romance from the Second Concerto ox Wieniawski. The latter was encored, and Grieg’s “Norwegian Dance ivas given in response. Mr B. Page, the city organist, opened the programme witn Beethoven’s "Coriolan” . overture, ( and subsequently performed Dvoraks Humoreske’’ and Cesar Franck 3 Toccata.” These were brilliant examples or Mr Page’s skill on the organ.:. .Miss Teresa McEnroe, the popular soprano, sang with facility and grace "-Nymphos et Syfvaus” (Bemberg). and added m response to a recall ■ ".There are i airies at the Bottom of our Garden (Liza Lehman). Mr Len. Barnes (bass) was in fine form with "Shipmates o Mine _ (Sanderson) and "Farewell to Summer (Noel Johnson). Ho was, warmly encored for both his songs and added "Danny Doever” jand The Floral Dance.” Mr Harold. Whittle acted as accompanist with his customary ekiu. Altogether the concert .was of a most enjoyable order. ■ ■ - , -
