COLLEGE ACCOMMODATION

INCBEASE NEEDED. The following report was submitted to th& .board of Governors of Wellington Colleges at yesterday's meeting regarding the question of accommodation:—"The Minister was sympathetic, but pointed out; the great demand for increased building all over tho country.. He suggested iurther, ; that to remedy the laeit. ol space at the Girls' College, the board should consider mo -establishment of a second Girls' College in the southern part of the city, if a suitable site could be obtained. The only suggestion to meet the present difficulty was that the board should rent a hall or other suitable building near the present school. Your committee is of opinion that it is quite impracticable to extend the accommodation at the Boys' College by this means. In respect to the Girls' College,. the inquiries that have already been made show the difficulty of obtaining any suitable building, in the near vicinity.. In the circumstances, therefore, four committee recommends that no Kreater number of pupils should be admitted to the two colleges than are at present in attendance, and that the order of admission be that already agreed upon between' the board and the Education Department." , ,

It was generally expressed that the board should do what it could to meet the acute shortage of accommodation. Mr J. P- Luke moved that the committee pursue the question of increased accommodation further; and be authorised to bring down a recommendation on the point—The motion was carried.
