OKAHU EXPLOSION
ONE OF THE VICTIMS DIES. Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, September 24. In connection with the egplosion in the Okahu tunnel yesterday, when- two men were badly injured, it has been ascertained that Kitto, who had been wounded twice at the war, was shockingly mutilated in the left arm, leg, and face. He had one eye blown clean out, and was totally blinded. Kitto died at Taumarunui Hospital this morning. Borthwick, who has six children, sustained injuries to his face wfth pellets of papa, like shots from a gun. Both eyes were injured. He is at present blind, and may become permanently blind. He has no body injuries. There are two stories of the accident —one that in drilling the men struck an old charge; the other that a charge misfired and they went to investigate.
