For the past three years the Hataitai Municipal Electors 1 Association has made requests to the City Council lor further tramway accommodation, but the City officials consistently replied that they were powerless to assist in the absence of certain machinery, which they allege could not he shipped from England for want of space, jet the last meeting of the association the following resolution *was unanimously passed, viz.“ln view of the inconvenioncA caused to the residents of this district by the inefficiency of the tram service stated by the civic authorities to bo due to the want of machinery awaiting shipment in England for eighteen months post, this association protests against the large shipments of liquor recently landed in tins .Dominion, which, ns an article of commerce, is absolutely non-essential, and urges the City Council to make, an emphatic protest to the Minister foi Munitions respecting the exclusion ol necessary machinery urgently required for the efficient working of the electric light and tramway systems of the city; and further, that it bo represented to the Mayor that the manifest of the a.s. Athonic, alone, contained a total of 72,507 gallons of liquor-”
