RECENT CASUALTIES

REGIMENTAL SERGEANT-MAJOR ■ TUCKEY.

News was received some time age to the effect that Regimental SergeantMajor R. S. Tuekey was dangerously iU from -wounds received while on. active ser%-ice in France. .Later news reports his death on Juno lOt'h. The deceased 'soldier was the youngest son of the l!ev. H. B. Tuekey, Tinakori road. He leaves a widow and a son. For many years Sergeant-Major Tuekey was at sea and had visited various paxts of the world. During the Russo-Japanese War ho was on the hospital ship Carthage, and later went to South Africa and took part in the Boer War campaign. He returned to New Zealand about five years ago, and received an appointment as Sergeant-Major in the Permanent Defence Force. He was very anxious to leave the Dominion with the Main Dody of the Expeditionary Force, but was unable to obtain permdseiion, and finally, after many other efforts in that direction, left with the iK)th Reinforcement. Ho was transferred to the 2nd Otago Battalion on. arrival in France. Many friends will regret to hear of SergeantMajor Tuckey's death.,

PRIVATE N. S. MANSON. Private N. S. Manson, roported gassed on Juno 3rd, is the third son of jU' HManson, Rianfurly street, Hornby. He was born at Teddington thirty years ago, and was educated at the 'i'eddmgtxra. and Yaldhurst schools. Private ■Manson was working in the North Island at the time of enlisting with the Wellington Infantry Regiment of the 30bh Reinforcement. A younger brother, Trooper L. Manson, left with the 10th Reinforcement, and was killed in action in Palestine within a few days of his arrival there.
