From Our Own Correspondent. . OTAKI, ’Tuesday.

A meeting of those interested in a proposed carnival to "raise funds for the ilorowhouua Patriotic Association was held in the Druids’ Hall last evening, but unfortunately only ton persons attended. Mr L. St. George occupied the chair, and invited suggestions'. After consideration it was decided to hold a gymkhana. Mr Frank Penn was appointed secretary, and Mr L. St. George Urea surer. The following committees, with power to add, were appointed: Produce stall. Mrs (Dr) Huthwaite; sweets, Mrs Hodgson; horse events, Messrs F. S. and W. M. Simcox: foot events, Meesrs J. R. Bills and B. H. Claridge; refreshments, Mrs J. E. Bills; shooting gallery, Mr E- C- Dann. Mrs Gillies was appointed judge of costumes of the fancy costume bicycle procession, which is to take place early- in the afternoon. Mr Frank Penn left last mg.-it for Akaroa. where his mother is lying seriously ill. Very little hope, is entertained for her recovery. , , , Second Lieutenant A- F. Chamberlain, at one time on the staff of the Bank of. Australasia at Otaki, is reported to be raakin-r good recovery. Privates Adsett and Barratt, both of Levin, are doing well. Playing for the Bills trophy on Monday, A. Smith and H. Windley (s) went under badly to V, - Enight and B Young (s), 28—12. Miss Mackie, who has been on a vit’-*. to thetManawatu district, returned last night.
