William Earnshaw, engineer, 4, Watson street, Wellington, left New Zealand in January, 1916, and is now 'engineer-lieutenant on one of His Majesty’s ships somewhere in tho North Sea. , t Information has been received that Arthur Thomas Backhouse, District 5, left Now Zealand with the 22nd Reinforcements. Information has been received that John Harrison, labourer, Drummond street, is not a, reservist, and his name should not have been included in the “Gazette.” Mr T. P. T. R. Hedges, letter-car-rier, 107, Wallace street, Wellington, who was drawn in the Tenth Ballot, when registering under the National Registration Act, 1915, gave his date of birth as 1897, omitting tho month. As there was some doubt, ho was left in the Reserve under section 6 (6) of the Military Service Act, 1916. His birth certificate has been produced showing that he was horn on November 19th, 1897, and therefore he should not have come under tho operation of tho ballot until after next November, when he will bo of military ago. Mrs McNally writes:—ln tho list of men drawn in tho last ballot the name of my son, Frederick George McNally, 70, Wright street, appears. Well, my son enlisted on tho day he was twenty, and left New Zealand with the 29th Reinforcements. Mr A. C. B. Perrin, drawn, in the ballot (Christchurch group), enlisted over eighteen months ago, attained the rank of sergeant, anti was on tho point of leaving New Zealand when ho had tho misfortune to fall and break his ankle, which eventually led to his discharge from the forces. He is now acting-sccrotavy to Dr Valihtino. Before enlisting he was engaged in journalism in Hastings, Wellington, and Christchurch. Another correspondent advises that Robert Scanlan, bush contractor, 177, Grant road, Wellington, called up in tho tenth ballot, enlisted before he was twenty, _ and sailed with tho 11th Reinforcements, on April Ist, 1916. He has thus seen much fighting, having been tw.elve months in France. Gunner Scanlan was reported wounded on August 17th. Private J. Buderus, of the Wellington Infantry, is among those called up in the ballot. He enlisted twice, being accepted at the second attempt, and went to the front many months ago. He was wounded in the battle of Messines. Private Buderus was on the mechanical staff of the “New Zealand Times” when ho joined the colours.
